If unions and their members received even one-tenth as much publicity for their achievements in helping keep our society together as they do for the occasional strike they conduct, their public image might reflect something closer to reality.

Dear Mayor Ford & Co.
I just want to say how happy I am to hear the City will not be contracting out for cleaning staff. As a resident, I’m glad that the cleaners, my neighbours, will continue to enjoy decent employment. That makes them and therefore my community, more stable, happy and secure. As a citizen I am happy that my fellow Canadians are being treated with the respect they deserve. And as a taxpayer, I employ them, so I am proud to know my tax dollars are not being used to chisel people out of a decent wage - particularly for honest labour that most people would not care to do.
