Thought Catalog: Can We Stop Calling Guys “Creepy?”

Uh, no.

I should have stopped reading this stupid piece after the first sentence.  Girls calling guys “creepy” is equivalent to guys calling girls “crazy”?  Let’s see… Guys call girls “crazy” to invalidate her feelings and to exonerate himself from the culpability of having provoked those emotions, i.e. bitches be crazy.  And, according to the author of this article, girls who call guys “creepy” are narcissistic, attention-seeking cock-teases…with low self-esteem…?

Uh, no.

Then there’s her request that we “start making a differentiation between a man doing a creepy thing, and us feeling creeped out by it.”

Uh, no.

I could go on (and I did in a saved draft that I will spare you all from), but I’ll just quickly say this: Of course, the word has been unfairly used by some to describe guys whom they find unattractive.  That sucks, bro—-I’m sorry.  But the reason why I will never stop calling a guy “creepy” is because it forces him to focus on how his presence makes me feel.  ”Creep” is a succinct and vivid way to label someone a potential threat.  Not necessarily violent, but definitely someone who has no respect for my boundaries.  Tell me not to use it, and you’re cutting off an avenue I have to openly and honestly communicate my expectations.  Diverting the discourse away from how women feel and centering it on how men are “actually” behaving (and they are NEVER behaving creepily; why are you overreacting? PMSing, are you?) is just another away of saying that we bitches be crazy: you’re absolving men from having to reflect and take responsibility for their actions.

And to that I say “PFFFT!”

Anyway, those are (a bit of) my scattered thoughts.  Interested to hear what the rest of the Tumblr verse has to say.  Dare I enter “creep” into the tag search box?
